The Morung - 'Community Responses for Advocating Right to Education and Protection from Exploitation for Children in Rural Nagaland'; is an initiative that focuses on protection and promotion of the rights of the children. The initiative reaches out to over 6000 children in 10 project locations spread across 5 districts in Nagaland.
An environment conducive to the right growth and development of the children are created through the combined effort of the institutions, community and the government for protecting, promoting and ensuring the fulfilment of their rights.
The children in targeted institutions and communities have adequate opportunities for growth and development and are protected from exploitation and denial of their rights.
The remedial learning focuses on children who are vulnerable to be dropped out due to academic performance. Free supervised learning and activity is facilitated with the support of volunteer teachers in the schools and communities.
Children Activity Groups and Peer learning Clubs are nurtured in 39 community setting with 2563 children. The children come together twice every month and engage in common activities and games under the supervision of the elders or teachers.
30 Child Protection committees have been formed and mentored by the initiative. with a total membership of 265 persons. The CPCs have been duly capacitated on Child Rights protection conventions.
The project seeks to build community responses towards protection and promotion of rights of the children through sustained knowledge
dissemination among the target groups.
Skill Development initiative under this project seeks to engage out of school children and young adults in productive activities and thereby nurture a sense of self worth and purpose.
State level Consultative Workshop with Government Departments, NGOs and Churches on Child Rights was held at Development Association of Nagaland office on 29th March 2022 with the theme “Children in Virtual World: Opportunities and Challenges.”
