Mission :
“Enhancing the dignity of the poor and marginalized in partnership with stakeholders such as, civil societies, FBOs, CBOs, NGOs, Corporate bodies and government sectors through advocacy, networking, and promoting the rights of the people”.
History :
The organisation was constituted in 1975 soon after the erection of the Diocese of Kohima-Imphal. It was known as Diocesan Social Service Society. From 1975 to 1980 it remained as an advisory body to formulate projects and monitor implementation with a part-time Director and a small secretariat. At that time the involvement was largely in building up infrastructure for institutions in the newly constituted Diocese. In 1980 a full time Director was appointed and the Association began functions as an independent entity under the guidance of a duly constituted governing body and an executive council.
In 1985 the Society was reconstituted giving more representation to lay people, professionals, leaders and intellectuals, making it more secular and registered under Societies Registration Act.
The primary initiatives of the association included creation of infrastructure for education and healthcare. Over 25 of hostels and primary schools were established under the aegis of the organization while an equal number of primary health facilities were also commissioned. the educational initiative aimed at improving the enrolment in primary schools as well as ensuring completion of secondary education at a time when Nagaland educational scenario was in its infancy. The association also sought to address the development needs of the rural poor through resource mobilization and capacity building.
